Sojourner House is hosting a 24-hour social media-a-thon on Wednesday April 29th this year, also known as Denim Day. Denim Day is a campaign that began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court, where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remover her jeans, thereby implying consent. Sojourner House is an organization that helps spread awareness and help victims of domestic and sexual violence. In such an odd time many people may no longer think about these issues due to social distancing but this can be an even more dangerous time for people in homes with domestic violence. Sexual Assault may not be getting the media coverage or as much attention as COVID-19 right now but this doesn’t mean it’s not happening behind closed doors or has disappeared all together. To help spread awareness about sexual assault and help victims of sexual assault I have decided to be a Sojo Virtual Ambassador to help Sojourner House meet their goal of 5,000 dollars during there 24-hour social media-a-thon. Raising awareness for sexual assault needs to always be a priority in order to end sexual violence even in a crazy times like we are in today. With these funds Sojourner House will continue to help countless victims and continue to spread awareness of sexual assault.
