Meet Sit. Stay. Sparkle. Guest Speaker Lucy and Service Dog Aeble

Woman in an electric wheelchair on stage with two adults and a yellow lab service dog in a blue vest lying at her feet.

After Rachel Coleman met a Canine Companions client, she quickly came convinced a service dog would help increase independence for her children.

Rachel’s two children both have disabilities. Lucy was born with spina bifida and cerebral palsy, and she uses a wheelchair. In 2025, Lucy paired with her second service dog, Aeble. “Aby Baby,” as Aeble has been nicknamed, supports Lucy in myriad ways. In much the same way that Lucy’s first service dog profoundly changed Lucy’s life for the better, so too has Aeble.

The Colemans have since gone from being what Rachel describes as “not a dog family” to a shining example of the independence service dogs offer — and enthusiastic advocates for Canine Companions.

“Don't wait,” Rachel says for those considering applying for a Canine Companions service dog. “It'll change your life. It'll change your child's life in ways you can't even imagine. You'll thank me.”

Hear the rest of Lucy, Rachel and Aeble’s story and the magic of welcoming a professionally trained service dog in their home at Sit. Stay. Sparkle.
