How long is the Run?

The 5K Run is a USTAF-certified 5K Route, which is approximately 3.1 miles. Walking is allowed, but a 16-min/mile pace must be maintained as the race route will only be closed to traffic for a limited time. See a map of the couse below.

The Fun-Run is 1-mile and is for runners or walkers!

Are strollers and non-running pets allowed to participate?

People with strollers or non-running pets can register as recreational runners. Each participant must maintain a 16-min/mile pace and be prepared to move aside if they encounter runners doubling-back on the route. Participants can only run with a stroller or a dog, but not both.

What happens if it’s raining when the run starts?

The Santa Paws 5K is a rain or shine event. The SPCA of Wake County holds the right to cancel the event in case of extreme weather.  If cancellation is necessary, the SPCA will notify all registrants via email and on the website.

Does the SPCA of Wake County require participants to fundraise?

You are not required to fundraise, but we encourage you to fundraise above the registration fee. Just imagine the IMPACT we could have if every run participant got (5) $50 donations.  5 for the 5K, $50 for the SPCA's 50+ years of work in the community.

If that happened, participants would collectively raise OVER one hundred thousand dollars to help care for more than 3,400 homeless pets that te SPCA help each year, as well as bringing valuable services to the pets and people in our community.

What a difference you could make!

How is the money I raise used?

100% of the money you raise goes directly to helping the homeless animals in our care. Please know that your support is vital to the SPCA of Wake County — donors make all the work the SPCA does possible. We do not receive any local, state, or federal dollars. We are an independent nonprofit organization and receive no funding from the ASPCA.

How do I turn in my donations?

The easiest way is to encourage your donors to make their gifts online. Give them the link to your personal page so you automatically get credit for their gift.

You can drop off or mail your donations to the Adoption Center at 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC. Be sure to include the donation pledge form so that we can recognize your donors and send them a gift receipt.
