This walk is deeply personal to our family. Our son, Levi, was born with a congenital heart defect, and last fall our journey took an unexpected turn when he underwent a valve transplant surgery through a domino procedure. It's an extraordinary gift that truly reflects the power of organ donation - one heart, two lives saved. In this unique surgery, one child receives a donor heart, and the healthy valve from that child's original heart is then transplanted into another child. Levi was blessed to received that precious gift, giving him a new chance at a healthier future.
Watching Levi face this journey with incredible strength has reminded us just how vital congenital heart research, medical innovation, and specialized cardiac care truly are. Because of advancements made possible through organizations like The Children's Heart Foundation, children like Levi have more hope, more treatment options, and more opportunities to live full, healthy lives.
Our team is walking with purpose this year - celebrating 30 incredible years of The Children's Heart Foundation funding research that saves lives. Every 15 minutes in the United States, a baby is born with a congenital heart defect, making CHDs the most common birth defect in our country. For three decades, CHF has been the driving force behind treatments and surgical advances that have transformed survival rates and given countless children with CHDs the chance to thrive.
The Congenital Heart Walk is dedicated to ensuring this impact continues. Its mission is clear: to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects by funding groundbreaking research that improves outcomes, reduces complications, and helps Heart Warriors live longer, healthier lives.
