Machining & 3D Printing

Machining & 3D Printing

Machining begins with an idea and ends with a precise, working part. Harmel men learn how to read prints, measure accurately, create digital models, and safely operate manual and computer-controlled machines.

What Students Learn

Students learn to:

  • Use calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring tools
  • Read blueprints and mechanical drawings
  • Operate lathes, mills, drill presses, and metal saws
  • Create 3D models using CAD software
  • Translate designs into CNC programs using Mastercam
  • Set tooling, establish work offsets, and machine finished parts
  • Use 3D printing to move from digital design to physical prototype

These skills also support Harmel’s advanced work in CNC machining, mold making, robotics, and industrial maintenance.

Current Needs

  • CAT 40 tool holders
  • Milling cutters and cutting tools
  • Calipers, micrometers, indicators, and inspection tools
  • Desktop computers for the ProMill machines
  • A laptop cart for CAD, CAM, and 3D-printing instruction
  • Reliable 3D printers, filament, and replacement parts
  • Robotics and automation training equipment
  • PLC trainers and controls components
