Harmel men learn to build, repair, diagnose, and maintain through practical welding, fabrication, automotive, and small-engine projects. Gifts to this area provide the materials that allow each man to practice repeatedly and develop real competence.

What Students Learn

Students learn to:

  • Perform MIG, TIG, stick, and oxy-fuel welding
  • Cut, grind, prepare, and join metal
  • Read welding symbols and fabrication drawings
  • Measure, lay out, and fabricate projects
  • Build with angle iron, tubing, plate, and structural steel
  • Identify major automotive systems
  • Perform oil changes and routine vehicle maintenance
  • Use diagnostic scanners to troubleshoot vehicle problems
  • Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild small engines

  • Angle iron for introductory welding projects
  • Steel tubing, plate, channel, and sheet metal
  • Welding gas, wire, rods, and filler metals
  • Grinding discs, sanding belts, and cutting wheels
  • Welding helmets, gloves, and protective equipment
  • Fabrication clamps, squares, and layout tools
  • Two additional automotive diagnostic scanners
  • Motor oil, filters, fluids, and maintenance supplies
  • Automotive hand tools and specialty tools
  • Project materials for go-karts and fabricated assemblies
