I have known my dear friend Christine for over twenty years, and I was thrilled for her and Neil when they married on July 9th, 2016. It was a beautiful ceremony, followed by fireworks, and I was so happy they were going to be spending many more wonderful years together. Unfortunately, on July 10th, 2019, almost three years to the day, Neil was given months to live.
This disease has left Neil no longer able to walk, struggling to talk, and unable to do all the daily tasks we take for granted. It has also caused him short term memory loss, but he still has long term memories, and loves to hear about his mischievous past! Neil has always been a very socialable person, and even though he struggles with conversation, he still loves visits, and a laugh with friends and family, whether online or in person.
I'm also raising funds because Neil and Christine BOTH walked with me years ago, when I was raising money for the National MS Society. I know first hand how overwhelming it is when a loved one gets a difficult diagnosis like MS. Neil's CJD diagnosis is not just overwhelming. It's devastating.
Strides for CJD supports the mission to assist families, educate professionals and fund research for a treatment and cure. Every dollar raised is a dollar closer to that goal and with your help, I hope to reach my own goal so I can help my friends, just like they've helped me.
