My Connection to CJD

Hey guys, Laura here... if you've never heard of CJD you're not alone. I highly suggest looking it up and researching it for yourself, it's devastating but insightful, you will definitely learn something. I had not heard about it until this past year when my dear friend Kristi was diagnosed after her health seemed to turn upside down in a short period of time.
Kristi and I met through Fresno State Baseball {GO DOGS} over 25 years ago... her husband Rod, daughter Lisa & SIL Bernie became friends and baseball family! We traveled together, shared many meals together (on the road, pre game tailgates, family BBQ's, etc), watched numerous baseball games side by side, always with the best snacks... and of course shopped in whatever city we happened to be in!
Kristi was loved by all, she dedicated her life to helping others, running the Live & Silent Auction each year at our FSU Double Play Dinner, teaching swim lessons to so many in the Reedley area, volunteering with local MAO  pageants, helping make crafts for various fundraisers and events, etc. She had a huge heart & she truly was one of a kind!

Kristi was healthy & still fairly active so when some odd things were happening, they knew something wasn't right. Stroke? Alzheimer's? Cancer? After no clear answers locally, Kristi's family got her into UCSF where one of the doctors was not only familiar with CJD but was one of the leading experts world wide on the disease. Even though they were finally relieved to have a diagnosis, the horrific news that CJD had no treatment or cure left them at a loss yet again. They valued each day, week & month with Kristi, never knowing how much longer they would have with her.
Tear filled phone calls with Lisa (Kristi's daughter) kept me updated on her journey and my girls and I were blessed to see her in February where she seemed to light up {... I didn't want to let go of her hand!} Qurantine hit in March and parts of daily life seemed to come to a standstill of sorts but we still prayed for a miracle for Miss Kristi. I'd get nervous texting Lisa each time as I knew that one day she was going to share that she had passed... I knew it was coming but I dreaded that day. So when I looked down at my phone that afternoon/evening in early June, I got the lump in my throat, my eyes started leaking & my heart simply aches for Rod, Lisa & their families... I thanked God for taking away her pain, for renewing her new life in Him, but mostly for blessing my life by knowing her!
Please consider donating or joining our team in Memory of Kristi Lozano and help raise funds to continue the research on CJD so that one day we can help treat/cure this ugly disease. No family should have to watch their loved one endure this CJD journey, let's fight this together & be part of something good for mankind! Kristi, I love you & miss you my sweet friend!
