Sandy loved to tell stories.

That’s why the CJD Walk is a great opportunity to get together and to tell – “Sandy Stories.”

Sandy had an uncanny ability to take a long story and make it longer. She also liked to repeat stories. Just ask a family member what our secret sign was when Sandy was repeating a story that we had heard maybe a couple of times before.

But what I would give to hear my Bride tell one more long story.

I still find it difficult to accept that she has been gone for about a year and a half. The cheerful picture of Sandy on the Strides For CJD page was taken while we were on a winter walk a couple of months before she passed away. There were no indications then that a horrible disease had invaded and would quickly rob her of her physical and cognitive abilities.

Sandy was a wonderful Christian and I have no doubt about where she is right now. She was 59, mother to three boys, and peacefully passed away in my arms March 30, 2021, two days after our 34^th wedding anniversary.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease can attack anybody for no known reason.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a rare, rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disease, one of several prion diseases caused by prion proteins that misfold in the brain. There is no treatment or cure and the disease is always fatal.

The mission of the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation is to support families affected by prion disease, raise awareness, and support medical education and research.
