It's that time of year again when I, along with my dad, sisters, family and friends do the CJD run/walk, in honor of our mother, Joyce. As you all know, my mother was diagnosed with CJD in 2015 and, after fighting like hell for over 3 years, finally succumbed to it in June of 2018. The life expectancy for someone who suffers from CJD is 6 months to a year, there are NO survivors! The fact that she survived as long as she did is a testament to who my mother was. CJD takes everything from those who have it, my mother lost her sight, her ability to walk, feed herself or speak. Not being able to hear her voice was one of the most devastating things for our family. Unfortunately, a cure didn't come in time for my mother, but we hope by participating in the walk and raising money and awareness for much needed research a cure will come.
