We are celebrating our 3rd Annual Fundraiser for #CJDSTRIDES #CURE

My mother was 52 when she was diagnosed with CJD, and left us 7 months after diagnosis. But I want to talk about how she lived.

I chose a photo of her advocating at a New York City protest because I want us all to remember how she was never afraid to shout her truth and fight for her beliefs!

My father once described her as the only person he knew who "truly showed no fear to any person or situation." Even during her illness, she would squeeze my hand while I sobbed by her side and give me that same defiant look she gave the challenges she had faced throughout life. So, remember her and walk in her spicy spirit when fighting for what you believe in. 

As of right now, there is no cure or treatment to slow down the effects of this disease. The funds raised from CJD Strides will go towards disease research and continued resources and support for families affected by this disease.

Each year, our family raises money in honor of my mother, Delia, with the dream that one day we will find a cure.

About Strides for CJD

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

  • Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
  • Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
  • Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
