Strides for CJD 2024

Valiant (adj.) | marked by, exhibiting, or carried out with courage.

Looking back on the five weeks I had with my mom from the day she was diagnosed with her terminal disease, I am in awe of her poise, attitude, and grace. She used what time she had left to bring joy to others. She smiled, she laughed, she embraced, she loved. When she had every reason to be selfish with the end of her days, she gave the very best parts of who she was to those that wanted to be around her and receive them. She was, in a word, valiant.

It feels so unfair that this incredible person didn't have any chance of recovery. There is no treatment, and no cure for the disease that took her at 61 years old. It's too late to save her, but there are many more incredible people who deserve a chance, if not at least a few more moments, to give their gifts to the world.

I would be deeply humbled and honored with your donation in her memory in the hopes of one day defeating Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
