We are Michele Miles and Sue Green, the Captains of Strides4CJD Saratoga. We are hosting a strides event in memory of their beloved sister-in-law and friend, Dawn Wood, who sadly passed away in August 2019.
Dawn's diagnosis with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) was a devastating blow to her family. Despite her efforts to receive medical attention, her condition rapidly progressed, and she eventually passed away on August 20, 2019.
In her memory, her family created a team Dawn's Army in the Strides4CJD a group dedicated to raising awareness and funds for research into CJD. They believe that by becoming a voice for Dawn, they can help find a cure for this rare and debilitating disease.
The Strides4CJD Saratoga event was started in October 2020 as a way to honor Dawn's memory and support those affected by CJD. The event is held annually in Saratoga Springs, New York, and aims to raise awareness and funds for research into CJD.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a degenerative brain disorder that leads to dementia and ultimately, death. It is a rare disease, with only one and a half to two cases diagnosed per million population each year. The initial symptoms of CJD include personality changes, anxiety, depression, memory loss, impaired thinking, difficulty speaking and/or swallowing, and jerky movements.
The Strides4CJD Saratoga event is an important opportunity for us to come together and make a difference in the lives of those affected by CJD. We hope you will join us in our mission to find a cure for this devastating disease.
Please join us on this important journey to find a cure for CJD. Your support means the world to us and will help us get closer to our goal of finding a cure for this devastating disease.

About Strides for CJD
Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Funds raised support our programs including:
- Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
- Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
- Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
