Dad, Uncle Bud, Grandpa.... He had many titles.

My father passed away from Creutzfeld Jacob Disease about six months after my wedding.  My children that came a few years later never got to know him.  He was only 64.  He was misdiagnosed for weeks, until finally a brain biopsy confirmed CJD.  Back then that was the only way to test for it, and the doctors didn't even want to do the procedure because it was dangerous for them. So many unknowns..... But researchers are making progress, which is why we walk.  We raise money for research,and to provide help and guidance to families who are going through what we went through. I not only wish for a cure, but also something to prevent it in the first place.  I'd like to know what causes it.  My Dad died two weeks after his diagnosis.  He was a pretty healthy guy.... newly retired, enjoying golf and some traveling. It was devastating, especially for our Mom.  She watched him quickly deteriorate and doctors couldn't explain it until they finally did the brain biopsy.   I read others' stories of their loved ones dying from this disease and find it hard to believe it is only one in a million people who get it.  So each year I walk and try to raise money for the CJD Foundation.

About Fundraising

Donations of $250 and above are considered sponsorships.

Sponsorship Levels:

  • Premier: $20,000
  • Diamond: $10,000
  • Platinum: $5,000
  • Gold: $1,000
  • Silver: $500
  • Bronze: $250

Premier, Diamond, and Platinum Sponsors will have their name or logo* displayed on participant T-shirts, the Strides for CJD website, and signage. Gold Sponsors will have their name or logo* displayed on the Strides for CJD website, and will have their name (not their logo) listed on participant T-shirts and signage. Silver and Bronze Sponsors will have their name listed on the Strides for CJD website only.

The deadline for Sponsors' names (individuals) or logos (companies) to appear on participant t-shirts is Sunday, August 9th at 11:59pm Eastern time. Sponsorships made after the sponsorship deadline will have their name or logo* displayed on the Strides for CJD website only.

About Strides for CJD

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

  • Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
  • Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
  • Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
