Today, we walk in memory of Susie and in support of CJD research, carrying with us the countless ways she touched our lives. For many of us, Susie was so much more than a caregiver—she was family. She helped raise our children: "Susie's kids."
Her Ferguson home was filled with toys, laughter, imagination, and the kind of love that made every child feel special and safe. So many memories come flooding back: the best grilled cheese sandwiches and wagon wheel noodles, birthday Jell-O made with love, gatherings on the deck and her unwavering presence at every important milestone. Whether it was a birthday, school event or game, celebration, or challenge, Susie was always there.
She devoted her life to caring for children, nurturing, teaching, and loving more than 150 "Susie's kids" over the years. The impact she had on those children and their families is impossible to measure. Her kindness, patience, and generosity shaped generations and created a legacy that will live on through every life she touched.
As we honor Susie today, we remember the joy she brought, the love she shared, and the incredible difference one person can make in the lives of so many. We walk in her memory, celebrate her legacy, and support the fight against CJD so that one day other families may be spared this heartbreaking disease.
