It was my first year as a counselor, and my cabin and I were walking to mealtime. I was casually chatting with some of the girls, when one of them asked me about my hair - how did I get it to be so curly? I laughed, and told her it was because I ate so much broccoli when I was younger. Her eyes widened, and she dashed off to tell her friends. Later, I observed every single one of the girls in my cabin piling broccoli high on their plates at dinnertime - and every meal afterwards! After camp ended, and I saw one of my girls at an after-school activity, she told me she eventually discovered the broccoli lie - but by then, she had started to love eating broccoli, and now she asks her mom to make it every week!

At Swift Youth Foundation, we believe physical comfort and a full stomach are essential for youth engagement. Swift provides the youth and teens we serve with a snack or meal at every program, as well as clothing, sleeping bags, and shelter during our residential overnight programs. Meeting the basic needs of the youth we serve at Swift is a key focus area of the organization. Finding fun and creative ways to make broccoli an exciting part of meal time is just one of the ways that I get to positively impact the youth we serve. When you support me this Swift Gives Day, you are helping to meet the basic needs of Swift youth and make broccoli a brilliant addition to any meal. :)

Whether you donate one grilled cheese and tomato soup lunch ($6) or enough to feed a delicious and nutritious dinner to an entire cabin of 12 campers ($72), I hope you know how much I appreciate your support. Thank you for your help meeting the basic needs of Swift youth!
