Sylvia will retire on June 30, 2021 with nearly 25 years of service to the Millersville University community. An alum of the University with a BSE in Art, Sylvia continued her Marauder journey as a secretary in the Psychology Department. Within a year she transitioned to a similar role in the Office of Human Resources, where she progressively developed her knowledge of employment law, recruitment practices, and benefit programs. Since 2006 she has successfully led the search for qualified candidates in University Dining & Catering Services, Facilities, University Police, Nursing, and various clerical functions across campus. Sylvia has been invaluable as a team leader in the coordination of Millersville University’s Employee Wellness Committee and a respected mentor for student employees serving in the Office of Human Resources. She connected her role in employee career development to our collective vision by supporting Academic Advisement initiatives that enabled her to counsel undeclared degree path students. Sylvia will share that some of her fondest memories stem from performing in previous employee recognition program skits.
Although Sylvia’s professional focus remained in Human Resources for many years, her passion thrives within the art community. She continues to create ink and watercolor drawings and paintings as well as metal jewelry and ornaments. As a non-traditional student herself at one time, she recalls the challenge of simultaneously working and attending school full-time and hopes a scholarship will alleviate some of that pressure so that a future student can excel academically as well as have the opportunity to fully partake in the ‘Ville experience.
Sylvia’s vast historical knowledge of department practices has been an asset through administrative transitions, coupled with her zest for learning and welcoming spirit. Although we are excited for her to develop her interest in biking local rail trails and explore Italy in a 2022 excursion, she will be missed as an EPPIIC member of the Millersville University community.
