The Ellen Hermanson Foundation
Creating a Legacy for Women’s Health

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation was founded in 1997 to honor Ellen Hermanson's legacy and continue the vital work to which she dedicated so much passion and effort. Ellen was a powerful advocate and activist who used her journalistic skills to become a prominent voice for breast cancer patients and their families. Through her writing, she raised awareness about early detection, the challenges of living with breast cancer, the often-overlooked issue of pain management, and the profound impact of breast cancer on entire families.

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art breast health care and supporting those affected by cancer. Serving primarily breast cancer patients on the East End of Long Island, New York, the Foundation achieves its mission through two main initiatives:

  • Offering educational outreach to highlight the importance of early detection and ensuring access to mammography and treatment for medically underserved communities.

  • Funding psychosocial support services that address the diverse challenges faced by breast cancer patients, survivors, their families, spouses, and friends.

No patient is ever denied care at the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center due to lack of insurance or inability to pay, and all services provided through Ellen’s Well are offered free of charge.
