"Why should I give to the Capital Humane Society?  They never seem to have many dogs up for adoption, and apparently have a lot of supporters with deep pockets."

But that is exactly why I still fundraise for them

It takes a lot of work to keep the shelter nearly empty, and even though the supporters with deep pockets made the current, modern facilities possible, it takes a lot of money to maintain those facilities, to pay the veterinarian staff, the office and kennel staff, and to run the educational programs that make the Capital Humane Society one of the best in the country.  I'll admit it:  the last five dogs I've adopted have not come from CHS - two came from Louisiana, two from Texas, and one came from Norfolk - places that aren't fortunate enough to have a place like the Capital Humane Society, who works tirelessly to find homes for all the animals in their care.  Still, the next time there's a vacancy in our pack (which hopefully won't happen for many years), the Capital Humane Society will be the first place I'll look for our next family member!   I encourage you to participate in the 2019 Tails 'n Trails Pet Walk - and if you can't join in, please donate to their cause!
