For the sixth time in five years, I'm running to support Children's Minnesota.

But you don't have kids, Lindsay? Why Children's?

Great question! My commitment to Children's started in 2015 on Twitter when I saw a tweet recruiting runners for the Twin Cities Marathon. I had never run a marathon but had it on my bucket list and that tweet was the push I needed to commit. 

Then months after I signed up to run, I met the families of Children's Minnesota. The parents who utilize Children's services in the early days of their child's life. The families who have turned to Children's in their darkest days -- following cancer diagnosis or heart problems or accidents. The kids who know the names of the doctors and nurses, the security guards because they have spent so much time there. 

I'm telling you, once you meet those families there is no going back. You're in. Because you realize the work being done at Children's is so important. And it is making a difference.

One of my favorite parts of Children's is their emphasis on addressing the whole person. Which is why I selected their Mental Health services as my specific area to support this year. As an adult in therapy, I can now recognize some of my earliest memories of struggling with anxiety, shame, depression. And as we as a society continue to become more comfortable with talking about it, I want to make sure that the next generation of children have the resources I didn't.
