Running the New York City Marathon means a lot more to us than just 26.2 miles.
My fiancé, Brandon, was born with Hemophilia A, specifically Severe Hemophilia A. This rare inherited bleeding disorder occurs in about 1 in 5,600 male births and means his body has less than 1% of the normal clotting factor (Factor VIII) needed for blood to clot. For most people, a bump or bruise is no big deal. For someone with severe hemophilia, bleeding can happen spontaneously into joints, muscles, or even organs, sometimes without any injury at all.
Despite the challenges that come with hemophilia, Brandon has never let it define or limit him. Today, he serves our community, dedicating his life to helping others after spending years supporting and mentoring young boys in the hemophilia community.
We are running the New York City Marathon to support the incredible work of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation, raising funds that go toward research, treatment, education, and ultimately a cure.
Every mile we run is for the kids learning to infuse for the first time.
For the families navigating this diagnosis.
For the community that has supported Brandon throughout his life.
