Thank you for your continued & very generous support of Mission of Our Lady of the Angels! I'm running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the 12th year in a row to support Mission OLA! I wanted to share a few highlights from this year!
Mission of Our Lady of the Angels exists to provide material and spiritual support to W. Humboldt Park, Chicago- one of the most challenged neighborhoods in the US. The Mission feeds about 3000 families a month, provides additional material and pastoral support to families, youth, and senior citizens, and, most importantly, brings the love of Christ to a neighborhood desperately in need of hope. Funds raised from Team OLA 2023 will be used to:
(1) Help the Mission expand its food pantry + other material distributions
-Mission of Our Lady of the Angels currently serves about 3000 families a month- and growing!
-Help the Mission continue to expand and improve this outreach.
-Last year, we served 35,000 FAMILIES with over 3 million pounds of food at our food pantry. 2023 is on track for being even larger. We are the first stop for MANY of the families of new immigrants from Ecuador, Venezuela, and elsewhere, including Ukraine
(2) Help the Mission successfully start using its new outreach center!
-2023 will be the first full year of use of our new outreach center
-We will be hosting large retreats for service groups and parishes for the first time as well as expanding out social services to our neighbors out of the new building.
(3) Fix our broken sewer line under the church
-A sewer line broke under the church and the repairs are going to cost up to $40,000
(4) Help us expand our evangelization efforts!
-A huge portion of the west side of Chicago has no functional young adult group for Catholics in their 20s and 30s. Thus, we started one this year! We’ve had up to 60 young adults attend our group and are looking forward to continuing to expand
-We continued bringing our Night of Mercy evenings to parishes in the area. At each Night of Mercy we have Adoration for several hours, confessions, and missionaries that walk the streets surrounding the parish to invite people in to pray.
-We organized and hosted a gigantic confirmation retreat for over 400 youth preparing for confirmation
