Why I'm Climbing

It has truly been a lifelong dream for my mom and I to climb Kilimanjaro together, and we knew it was important to make this trip about something even bigger. That's why we're so excited to climb on behalf of Opportunity International as founding members of Team Opportunity!

I'm a longtime fan and supporter of Opportunity International. There are many nonprofits aimed at supporting the poor, but relatively few who effectively reach and elevate the ultra-poor (those living on less than $1 per day). This mission, paired with my passion for adventure, made for the perfect match to take on a bold goal to raise $20,000 to help unlock opportunities for Malawian women living on less than $.50 a day. Through my training this year, I am working to help these women lift their families out of extreme poverty. With your support, women will receive resources to meet their immediate needs and empower them to start businesses, generate income, feed their families, and send their children to school -- all necessary elements to break the complex cycle of poverty.

My Training

For 22 weeks, I'm training 6 days per week in order to be in the best condition possible. I've already climbed two 13,000 ft mountains in Colorado, and will be taking weekend trips to climb mountains in the Catskills.

I'm learning to love running again, and have been puttling mileage on my treadmill. When the weather warms up, I'll be going on some longer runs around Central Park. 

I'm trying to mix in a healthy amount of cross training like cycling, swimming, and weight training.
