I have some EXCITING news to share. I will be participating in the 2024 New York City Marathon on behalf of an organization called Opportunity International. Eeeek!
WHY I AM RUNNING A MARATHON
My heart has always been drawn to love, serve, and empower the poor, overlooked, and forgotten. The mission of Opportunity International works to do this very thing. By offering financial solutions and training, people in poverty are empowered to transform their lives, secure a brighter future for their children, and strengthen their communities. Presented with the honor of raising funds for this mission AND the unique chance to run the NYC marathon, I said yes!
Could it get any sweeter?! Actually, it can and has. New York City is one of my favorite places. I am enamored by the bustle, the immense diversity of people, cultures, languages, boroughs, transportation, food, and overall urban setting (I don’t even mind the rats ha!). If I am going to attempt what I once thought was impossible for me, there is nowhere else I would rather run. I am so grateful for this spot on the team. You better believe I am going to give it my all!
My specific goal is to raise $10,000 to partner with "The Rise." This program focuses on giving Malawian women living on 50 cents per day the ability to rise up out of poverty. With your gift, may hope rise in these precious women as they receive resources to meet their immediate needs and intensive training to start businesses, generate income, feed their families, and send their children to school.
