It’s true. After several years of increasing – and ultimately unsustainable – pressure (and encouragement) to run with Team Snow City Arts, I am finally doing it. I’m running because I love Snow City Arts and am passionate about their work to inspire youth in Chicago area hospitals by helping them create and learn about art.

I support Snow City Arts for many reasons, but one thing I always think about is SCA's ability to turn hospital rooms from frightening and unsettling places for a child into a space that does not need to be solely associated with shots, doctor and nurse visits, and other things that are out of their control. Snow City Arts transforms the hospital room into an artist studio, a film set, or a recording studio, where Snow City teaching artists let students choose to paint, draw, make music or a film, write poetry or a play; to make their own decisions and have agency. Each year, approximately 1,200 young patients in Chicagoland hospitals get a chance to express their creativity, connect with their artistic talents, and take a break from the reality of being ill to just be a kid again.

I’ve proudly served as the Auxiliary Board Chair for the past two years and am excited to take on the challenge of running my first race in support of this incredible organization.

On October 29, I will be running the 5K – five thousand Ks. I’m not entirely certain what a “K” is, but my understanding is that each “K” translates to maybe 2-3 miles? I may be confused. We will find out…life is an adventure!
