Ever since I started running in high school, I’ve dreamed of completing a marathon for a cause that truly means something to me. This past year, as I began my journey as a pediatric nurse, I met a patient who changed my life and ultimately became my why. 

He was born with Down syndrome and was one of the most vibrant, joyful, and silly kids I’ve ever known. We formed an instant connection, and I had the privilege of caring for him over many shifts. The joy he brought into my days was unforgettable, and through him, I discovered just how deeply this community matters to me.

Individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities are too often overlooked, yet I believe they bring an irreplaceable light and perspective to the world. They deserve to feel seen, valued, and included because they belong, fully and completely, in our communities. This organization grants them dignity, opportunity, and connection, which is so important for their well-being.

That’s why I am very excited and grateful to be running in support of Special Children’s Charities. Since 1969, this incredible organization has been a driving force for inclusion and empowerment, serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago. Through programs like sports, art and music therapy, life skills classes, and cultural activities, they create meaningful opportunities for connection, growth, and joy across all 77 Chicago neighborhoods.

I’m honored to run this marathon with a purpose, and I hope you’ll consider supporting me on this journey. Every donation, big or small, helps create a more inclusive world where everyone is encouraged, empowered, and celebrated.
