I will be running with #TeamSCC in support of Special Children’s Charities (SCC), an organization that has been making a meaningful impact across Chicago since 1969. Through inclusive sports, recreation, and enrichment programs, SCC provides children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to build confidence, independence, lifelong skills, and a true sense of belonging. Their year-round programs ensure that everyone can experience the joy of movement, teamwork, and personal accomplishment—values that strongly resonate with me and is the reason why I chose to run for this cause.

Ever since middle school, I have had a deep passion for running. I began competing in track and field in 2012 and carried that commitment with me into high school. During that time, one of my track coaches introduced me to cross country as a way to improve my conditioning. Since then, distance running has remained a constant in my life.

Growing up, I used to watch and notice how my mom was really into running and would partake in numerous races of varying distances. I was also inspired by watching my dad compete in numerous races, triathlons, and ultimately complete an Ironman. Seeing his dedication firsthand reinforced the idea that we often become shaped by what we see and experience daily. Running quickly became more than a sport—it became a source of stress relief, mental clarity, and a way for me to reconnect with myself.

Through running, I have learned valuable life lessons, including the importance of consistency, dedication, and perseverance. More importantly, it has taught me that support, inclusion, shared experiences, and meaningful memories are what truly make the journey special. When my younger sister and dad both raised money for charity while running their first marathon—the Chicago Marathon—I felt inspired to do the same. I decided I wanted to run not only for personal fulfillment, but also for a cause that allows me to give back to the community I come from.
