Since 1969, Special Children’s Charities has been the driving force behind inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago. 

Special Children’s Charities aims to transcend boundaries and redefine possibilities by serving as a symbol of empowerment and inclusivity within both the disability community and the City of Chicago.

The spirit of accomplishment, inclusion, and joy that are part of the marathon experience are what we strive to provide for thousands of our participants in all 77 Chicago neighborhoods. With your help, we are creating a more inclusive Chicago–one mile at a time.

While we don't reside in the Chicago area, we know what its like to need programs with more funding. Cheering me along through my training and on race day is my son, Garrett; despite being born with Down Syndrome, his journey knows no boundaries! He has shown me that with love and support, that he can overcome any obstable, and he has taught me what it means to be a true hero.

Through similar programs and organizations, he got the oppurtunity to join a basketball team for his school; bringing him extra time to encourage physical health as well as mental well being as he looked forward to game day each week! Done with schooling now, we look forward to our local annual Buddy Walk Day to celebrate all with an extra chromosome and all of their abilities!
