Since 1969, Special Children’s Charities has been the driving force behind inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago. This is a mission that deeply resonates with me, as both pioneering and participating in Unified Basketball at my high school was one of the most enriching and rewarding experiences of my life.

Unified Basketball celebrates the lasting bonds made between students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilties in an athletic setting, prime for building camaraderie and resilience. In a similar manner, special Children’s Charities aims to transcend boundaries and redefine possibilities by serving as a symbol of empowerment and inclusivity within both the disability community and the City of Chicago. It is this spirit of friendship, joy, and dedication that I plan to tackle my first World Major Marathon.
