Hello, and thank you for visiting my page!
My name is Kyle Hills, and this October I’ll be running 26.2 miles in the Chicago Marathon in support of Special Children’s Charities.
Through my experience working with children with special needs, I’ve seen firsthand how access, inclusion, and community can shape a child’s life in meaningful ways. That’s why I’ve chosen to run in support of an organization dedicated to making those opportunities available to every child.
About Me
This will be my third marathon, but my first time running at home in the Chicago Marathon!
My connection to this charity comes from my experiences working with children. I’ve volunteered with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago as both a volunteer and a member of the Young Associates Board. I’ve also served as a camp counselor at Paul Newman’s Camp Boggy Creek for children with serious illnesses, and worked as an after-school care team lead and one-on-one specialist for children with special needs.
Across these experiences, I've learned that when children are given the chance to participate, create, and connect, it can meaningfully impact their confidence, development, and overall well-being. Whether it is learning archery, participating in a group read-along, or creating art with their own hands, these moments can encourage positive growth and belonging.
When I learned more about Special Children’s Charities and the work they do around inclusion and empowerment, supporting this mission through running felt like a natural fit.
About Special Children’s Charities
Special Children’s Charities provides year-round programs for thousands of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across all 77 neighborhoods of Chicago.
The mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to explore their interests, build relationships, and fully participate in their community.
Their programs focus on three key areas:
- Athletics — building confidence, physical health, and teamwork through inclusive sports
- Arts — encouraging creativity, self-expression, and emotional well-being
- Enrichment — providing access to cultural experiences, social connection, and personal growth
Importantly, these programs are offered at no cost to participants. Nearly 70% of those served live below the poverty line, making access to free, inclusive programming essential.
The Goal
I’m aiming to raise $2,500 to support Special Children’s Charities through the 2026 Chicago Marathon.
Every dollar goes directly toward funding these programs and expanding access for individuals and families across Chicago.
If you’re able, please consider making a donation before race day on October 11.
Thank you for your support—it truly makes a difference!
Kyle
Again, thank you for supporting the thousands of participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago!
