I’m running the Chicago Marathon with Special Children’s Charities for something much bigger than a finish line.

I studied Special Education because I believe every child deserves to be seen for who they are, supported for who they can become, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Now, as a teacher, I get to live that belief every day in my classroom.

That’s why the mission of Special Children’s Charities means so much to me. Since 1969, they have worked to create greater inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago. Their goal of creating a more inclusive Chicago—one mile at a time—beautifully reflects what I believe education should be: a place where everyone belongs, everyone has a purpose, and everyone has the opportunity to shine.

I’m running for the children and families who deserve to feel included, empowered, and reminded that their possibilities are bigger than any limitations placed in front of them. I’m running for my students, for the next generation, and for a world where differences are embraced rather than used to define what someone can achieve.

This marathon is more than 26.2 miles for me. It’s a chance to use something I love—running—to support something I’ve dedicated my life to: helping create a world where every person feels seen, valued, and included.

One mile at a time, we can create a more inclusive world.
