I’m incredibly excited to be running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as part of #TeamSCC in support of Special Children's Charities.

Sports and the arts played a huge role in my life growing up. If you knew me as a child, you probably knew my parents had a rule for me and my siblings: play a sport, play an instrument, and learn a language. I’m incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to pursue those things throughout my childhood and into adulthood. The experiences I had through athletics and music shaped who I am today. However, looking back I also recognize that access to sports teams, music lessons, and creative outlets is a privilege that not every child has. Because of the impact these experiences had on my life, I strongly believe everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in activities that build confidence, community, and joy.

Since 1969, Special Children’s Charities has helped make those opportunities possible for thousands of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across all 77 Chicago neighborhoods through athletics, recreation, and arts programming. Their work helps create spaces where people can participate, connect, and thrive.

Running 26.2 miles is a big challenge, but it’s even more meaningful knowing that every mile helps support a more inclusive Chicago.
