A year ago, I could not run a mile without stopping. Now, I am training for 26.2. I never would have made it to this point without one of my best friends, Maria, who encouraged me to lace up in the first place and will be running every step of this race beside me.

I am proud to be running in support of Special Children’s Charities, a cause close to my heart. Since 1969, SCC has been a driving force for inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago. Through inclusive sports, arts, and enrichment programs, SCC helps create opportunities for accomplishment, connection, and joy across all 77 Chicago neighborhoods.

Growing up alongside a dear family friend with Down syndrome showed me firsthand how meaningful these opportunities can be. Organizations like SCC help redefine what is possible and create a more inclusive Chicago, one mile at a time. I am honored to run in support of their mission.
