Running has become so much more than a sport to me. It has challenged me, grounded me, and taught me just how capable I am of doing hard things. Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to run my first marathon, the TCS New York City Marathon, and crossing that finish line was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Now, I’m excited to take on a new challenge and run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as a member of #TeamSCC.
This marathon means even more to me because I’m running for a cause that is very close to my heart. I have people in my life who are close to me and live with intellectual and developmental disabilities, so I’ve seen firsthand how important community, inclusion, opportunity, and support can be. Everyone deserves the chance to feel empowered, included, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
That is what makes Special Children’s Charities so special to me. Since 1969, SCC has been creating opportunities for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago, helping build a community where everyone has the opportunity to participate, connect, and thrive.
There is something incredibly powerful about running a marathon: thousands of people, each with their own story and reason for showing up, coming together to accomplish something bigger than themselves. This year, I’m proud to run for the people I love, for greater inclusion, and for the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to feel like they belong.❤️
