Haiti—A nation in pain and turmoil as gangs continue to wreak havoc on its people.
The good news is that the innocent children whom Future Forward for Haiti support are in the mountain areas and continue to attend school. However, the gang violence along the route from the Cap Haitien port in the northern part of the country to our villages in the mountain areas makes the distribution of meals to our schools impossible. The meals that we packed at our last Packathon in 2024 made a huge difference to the children and families in six areas that surround Cap Haitien. Many of these people were forced to leave their homes in the gang-controlled regions of Haiti and travel north to the Cap Haitien area.
Since there is no safe way for the meals to reach our school children, we will NOT be packing again this year. Our total effort will focus on fundraising for locally-provided meals for our school children. We have been successful in sending funds via electronic transfer to our partners in Haiti for teacher salaries, textbooks, supplies and meals.
With half the population in Haiti experiencing acute hunger, our school children need food now more than ever.
Our goal is to raise $60,000 to send to our partners to purchase rice, beans, and vegetables. If we are successful, the 600 children in Trois Mares and Chapottin will be able to eat nutritious lunches five days a week throughout 2027.
