Packathon Time is Rewarding for All!!
You may not know these facts about Haiti:
-
Only 60% of adults can read at a 6th grade level.
-
The Haitian government does not provide school to rural communities.
-
The average annual income is $350
-
At home some children don't get even one hot meal a day.
We at Future Forward for Haiti are working hard to provide education and meals for the 500 school children in Trois Mares and Chapottin. This past year has been especially difficult because many Haitians have been protesting the way the government officials have been treating them. The violent outbreaks kept us from sending our travel team to visit the villages we serve. It is amazing that the Packathon meals from 2018 have been delivered to our children. Their families live up in the mountains far away from the protests in the cities. But they have been impacted by inflated prices of food and gas.
On the bright side, construction at the two school sites has continued. Chapottin has a brand new second story to its school. The total of eight classrooms can now house all of the school's 200 student population. In Trois Mares, an additional six classes are nearly completed. We are very grateful for the grants that have subsidized these projects.
This year we must raise $56,000 to cover the expense of the ingredients and transportation of the 123,000 meals that we will pack on November 9, the locally-provided meals that the students will eat once a week, and the overhead expenses we incur running the event. The children will have the Packathon meals four days a week so that he students will eat a hot meal every school day next year, 2020.
Of the $56,000 that we must raise, my goal this year is $12,000 and I hope to meet it with the help of my loyal friends and family members. Would you be willing to join in this effort?
Teaneck Packathon is organized by Future Forward for Haiti, Inc. It is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, with no paid employees, so over 95% of your gift will go to help in Haiti. If you prefer to give with a check, please write it to Teaneck Packathon for Haiti and mail to Sue Papera, 604 Rhein Court, New Milford NJ 07646.
