When diseases strike us or those close to us, they transform from numbers on a page to real, life-changing events. Watching my grandmother’s battle with metastatic lung cancer and the hardships it induced on our family brought this home for me. For the victims of cancer who don’t survive, their legacy lives on well after them - my late uncle, who I’ve never met, has had a lasting impact on our family after his battle with colon cancer. I’m riding with Texas 4000 for Cancer not only to honor these members of my own family, but those of countless other cancer patients around the world. Through supporting my journey and helping to spread awareness, you can help to make a difference in the fight against cancer. 

Two and a half years ago, I decided I would try to run my first marathon. At the time, this was the hardest thing I had ever done, and I had no intention of continuing with running after finishing. Since then, I’ve developed a passion for endurance sports that exceeds anything I could’ve ever hoped for, competing with the Texas Triathlon team and meeting countless great friends along the way. I’m grateful for the impact that athletics have had on my own life, and through Texas 4000, I aim to encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle and develop myself as a leader in health and wellness. 

Combining one of my huge passions with a cause that has impacted me and so many others around the world is an unmissable opportunity to make a little bit of difference in the world. I can’t wait to begin this journey and to keep everyone updated as I make my way to Alaska.
