Meet Our Walk Ambassadors

Leading the Way in Care, Community, and Hope!

Honoring Bradley

My son Bradley’s epilepsy journey began in 2016, when he had his first seizure at just five months old. As we searched for answers, we learned he carried an SCN1A genetic mutation. This diagnosis came with a lot of uncertainty. Though Bradley’s seizures were relatively controlled, we faced an unimaginable loss when he passed away from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) in January 2017. In the midst of that heartbreak, we discovered the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas and the incredible support, advocacy, and hope they provide to families like ours. Their work has become deeply meaningful to us, and our connection to their mission is rooted in honoring his life and helping others navigate the challenges of epilepsy.

My family’s involvement with the Epilepsy Foundation Texas and the Houston Walk is a way to honor Bradley’s life and ensure his story fuels progress, understanding, and hope.

Making a Difference

My name is Michael Corn, and I discovered I had epilepsy all the way back in the year 1995. That very same year I went through 3 different surgeries, having to have my colon removed after going through ulcerative colitis for the past 3 years. It was a lot to handle at the same time.

I started to participate in the walk in 2019 and have participated in it every year since.  There has never been anything in my life that gives me a more positive experience regarding epilepsy than participating in this event. It connects me to various people, including friends, family, and coworkers, who show a tremendous amount of support and make me feel that I’m not alone in this challenge.

In my opinion, there is one thing that every person with a disability can use, and that is for their disability to help make a positive difference. I went every year from 1995 until my first year participating in the Texas Epilepsy Walk, having epilepsy cause nothing but something negative. Having it cause something positive not only for me but for others with epilepsy is what I have always needed. I know that participating in this event is making a true difference in many ways for the Epilepsy Foundation Texas, and it helps not just one person with epilepsy but many.

I have raised over $19,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation Texas since I started participating in the walk, and I know it’s not just because I sign up for the walk but because I am participating in the fundraising. If we all trust our friends and family, we should be reaching out to them to ask if they would be kind enough to make a donation.  Each donation matters, whether big or small.

Walking for the Campers!

Hi!  I’m Naomi Boll and I am 16. I was adopted from Taiwan when I was 8 months old.  I have ESES epilepsy and all night long my brainwaves spike. We did not know about this until I was 5 years old. I don’t have many seizures when I am awake, so my family did not understand why I was behind in my development.

Because I don’t sleep well, I don’t remember everything I learn during the day.  But I love to learn!!!  And someday I will be a teacher’s aid!

I help with the 1st grade class at church. I also in a club called TAFE, Texas Association of Future Educators.  In February this year I am presenting at the state wide conference!

Epilepsy Foundation Texas has so much for people like us.  I went to Kamp Kaleidoscope last year at Morgan’s Camp and had a great time!  Swimming was fun!  And the helpers were great! If you can go, don’t miss it! So much fun and so many new friends!

From the ICU to the Big 12

The Epilepsy Foundation Texas is honored to announce Chase Jenkins, a proud Houstonian and quarterback for the University of Kansas, as our 2026 Community Ambassador.

Chase’s connection to our mission is deeply personal. As an infant, Chase experienced a series of severe seizures that led to a 10-day stay in a Houston ICU. While those ten days were a period of immense uncertainty for his family, they also sparked a journey of resilience that eventually led him to the elite level of college football.

Even while competing on the national stage, Chase remains dedicated to his hometown and the 1 in 26 Texans living with epilepsy. He has seen the impact of our mission firsthand—visiting the campers at Camp Spike ‘n’ Wave, walking alongside our community at the Texas Epilepsy Walk Houston, and supporting our programs at the EFTX Houston Gala.

"I know what it’s like to face a scary diagnosis, but I also know that with the right care and community, there are no limits to what you can achieve. I’m proud to champion EFTX because they provide that care and hope to families right here in my hometown every single day."Chase Jenkins

This year, Chase is challenging the city of Houston to join him in the SFA Challenge. As a quarterback, he knows that the best offense is a prepared defense. Join Chase in making Houston the Safest City for seizures by getting certified today.

General Information

Where do the funds go?

Every dollar raised during the Houston Epilepsy Walk at the Zoo stays right here in our community to provide programs and services at no cost to individuals and families living with epilepsy. Your contribution fuels three main pillars of our mission:

1. Clinical & Medical Excellence

We are bringing specialized care to your doorstep.

  • The Mobile Clinic: Your donations fund the operation of our new mobile clinic van, providing neurological care to underserved areas in Harris County.

  • Patient Navigation: We fund resource navigators who provide one-on-one case management, helping families navigate insurance, school accommodations, and specialist referrals.

2. Safety & Community Education

We are making Houston the safest city in Texas for those with seizures.

  • Seizure First Aid (SFA): We provide free SFA certification to teachers, school nurses, first responders, and local businesses.

  • Awareness Kits: We supply newly diagnosed families with the tools and educational resources they need to manage epilepsy safely at home.

3. Youth & Family Programs

We provide spaces where kids can just be kids.

  • The Gift of Camp: We send children to specialized summer camps where they receive 24/7 medical supervision while participating in traditional camp activities.

  • Support Groups: We host monthly connection circles for parents, siblings, and adults living with epilepsy to ensure no one fights this journey alone.

Do I have to register to walk?

Yes, all participants must be registered to walk. You can register as an individual, create a team, or join an existing team. We encourage people to sign up as a team, as this seems to be more fun from what we have gathered from past participants, but we welcome all individual walkers.

Do I need to register my children to walk?

Yes, all children, including babies, must be registered. Parents/guardians can register children online by clicking 'add a child or additional guests' after you have completed your online registration form.

Is there a registration fee?

Yes. To help cover the cost of the event and ensure every dollar raised goes directly to our programs, registration fees are as follows:

  • Adults (12 & up): $30 (Includes full-day Houston Zoo admission and an official Texas Epilepsy Walk T-shirt).

  • Youth (ages 3 - 11): $25 (Includes zoo admission and a youth-sized Walk T-shirt).

  • Toddlers (0-2): $10 (includes zoo admission and a toddler-sized Walk T-shirt)

Early Bird Special: Register by February 28 and use code Early Bird to receive $5 off your registration!

Our Commitment to Accessibility: The Epilepsy Foundation Texas is committed to ensuring that every family can join us for this day of Community, Care, and Hope. If the registration fee is a barrier for your family this year, please reach out to us at Cherie Watson, Resource Navigator, cwatson@eftx.org, or speak with your EFTX clinic coordinator about our Mission Scholarship program.
