Few events in life have left me forever changed. The unfortunate passing of Chris Potter and April Watson changed my life forever. These wonderful humans were family to me. Fortunately, they were selected as honorees for The Friendship Paddle, an event I had taken part in a couple of times before. With Chris' paddle, I was able to see firsthand the powerful impact The Paddle has on the honoree, their family, and their friends. The support and community The Paddle offers is difficult to put into words. This brings me to how you can help support. The funds we raise will allow the family to pay off medical bills, to keep the family in their home, and help with long-term needs like college tuition. Perhaps the most touching benefit is the ability for the honoree and their family to create meaningful memories in the time they have left together. Last year, you all helped Nick Fields and his mom to travel to Greece and visit their roots. He looked me in the eyes and said, "You did this. You made this trip possible." I didn't do it alone. You all helped make that trip happen. You gave a mom and a son time together. 

Now it's time to help Scott Miners.

Scott is a husband, father, surfer, volunteer, and longtime Santa Barbara community member. In 2021, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. After years of treatment, his cancer has progressed to Stage 4.

Even while facing his own diagnosis, Scott has continued to show up for others. He has volunteered with Meals on Wheels, built friendships within the Cancer Center community, and supported the Friendship Paddle family. Last year, while quietly fighting his own battle, Scott paddled, encouraged, and supported another honoree.

Every year, I look for a generous donor to match funds. This year, the Johnson Family has stepped up to the plate. Every dollar you donate will be doubled up to $5000. Please consider giving a little something extra to help me get to, and possibly pass my goal of raising $10,000.
