Every fall, our Daystar staff gets the privilege of participating in The October Thing—31 days of raising money for our little yellow house and, specifically, for our sliding scale. Every dollar raised helps make it possible for kids and families to receive counseling, regardless of what they can afford. 

After all these years, I still can’t quite believe I get to be part of this place.

I get to watch kids walk through our doors carrying worry, grief, anger, fear, and things that feel much too heavy for their age…and watch them slowly find words, courage, hope, and healing. I get to sit alongside parents who are doing their very best to love their kids through hard things. And I get to do all of it alongside some of the kindest, wisest, most wholehearted humans (and canines) I know.

The need for counseling continues to be significant. And one of the things I love most about Daystar is that we never want finances to be the reason a child can’t get the help they need. So, this October, my personal goal is to raise $10,000 toward our sliding scale.

So many of you have given over the years. You have prayed for us, encouraged us, and helped make this work possible. I hope you know how deeply grateful I am. You are part of every story of help and healing that happens here.
