Jeff started his job as a pet therapist at Daystar in November of 2021—he has loved his job, even on the hardest of days. He's sat beside kids who were hurting. He's been there when words were hard to find. He has offered the kind of quiet companionship that only a really good dog can offer.

He is, quite simply, a very, very good dog.

He's had a great time, too. From playing hide and seek in the lobby with new clients who were't so sure about counseling to sneaking peanut butter and crackers from his favorite clients, Jeff has loved as much as he's been loved. 

Jeff is 12 and we recently discovered a mass he won't survive. He will work until he can't and finish well.

It seems to me the best way for a pet therapist to finish his work is by making sure the work continues after he's gone.

So this is Jeff's last assignment: raise money for the kids he has spent so many years helping. At Daystar, our annual fundraiser is called The October Thing. Every dollar raised helps us provide counseling on a sliding scale, so that families who couldn't otherwise afford therapy can still get the help they need.
