My Personal Fundraising Page

Guys. This tiny organization Kim and I started 17 years ago has become such a life-giving space for new neighbors and for all of us who get to know and love them. No one encounters the resettled community without experiencing kindness, wisdom, a good laugh, and a great meal! We never imagined Spero would grow to what it is today, and we can't let our neighbors down by ending services. Please help me walk toward welcome and meet my fundraising goal on behalf of all the incredible people from around the world that make OKC awesome!.

I'm raising money for The Spero Project, Inc.!

I’m thrilled to be participating in The Walk for Welcome, a fundraiser supporting The Spero Project!

What is The Spero Project? The Spero Project welcomes resettled refugees by connecting our new neighbors to people, resources and learning opportunities that make Oklahoma City a place of belonging.

What is refugee resettlement? The United States Refugee Admission Program is a longstanding institution offering safe and legal pathways for resettlement to individuals fleeing war, violence, and persecution. This program, with robust processes and vetting protocols, has been a gold standard in welcoming new neighbors from war-torn regions around the world.

Why are we walking? On June 7th, we will walk to let our neighbors know Oklahomans will not walk away from welcome. There have recently been major changes in the landscape of refugee resettlement at the federal level. Unfortunately, national funding cuts for resettlement are directly affecting the work that Spero does in OKC and putting the services our new neighbors rely on at risk.

At the Walk for Welcome, we will walk in solidarity with new neighbors who were promised arrival before the program was canceled and to raise funds for crucial programming that benefits new neighbors already living in OKC. Programming such as language classes, student support, employment services, social services and more are at risk.

Walk for Welcome is a family-friendly event! With a walk length of just over 1 mile, kids activities/crafts, and Scissortail's Farmer's Market and splash pad running nearby, this event will be suitable for everyone.
