In February of 2015, I bought my first pair of skates. I could easily count the number of times I'd been on skates on one hand, but I thought, hey, I could play roller derby with these! Boy was I wrong. I showed up at TTRB tryouts about a week later in skinny jeans and a t-shirt totally ready to join the league. I couldn't stop or slow down, unless you count falling down as stopping. I couldn't move with any real speed to speak of. I was a danger to myself and others... and that, my friends, is why I was pulled out of tryouts about half way through. Mortified, I sat on the benches and watched the rest of the girls try out with grace and skill that I could never imagine having. I was then met by a handfull of league members who lifted my spirits and encouraged me to keep trying. A few months later, after the bruise on my ego faded, I headed to PFM... I learned to stop, control my speed, and stop falling every 12 seconds. In April of 2015, I tried out again and finally made the league. 

Skating with TTRB has changed my life. It has given me power that I never thought I could have, both physically and mentally. Finally, I have a a passion for something! For those of you who know me, really, who would have thought I'd be excited about sports? I have the absolute honor of skating with some of the strongest women I've ever met, and it's all because of TTRB. This is a league that lifts you up when you're down, again, both physically and mentally. It's a league that welcomes everyone from all walks of life. Most importantly, it's a league that proves that even a little grit and determination can go a long way.
