This Saturday, Waverly and I will walk the LA Marathon Big 5K to raise money for our beloved Kitten Rescue. Normally, you’d have been hearing from me for weeks, even months, asking for donations.

But nothing’s been normal these past months since I found out I was losing my job; I’ve been paralyzed. A thoughtless stroke of a corporate pen and my, and others, lives are thrown into upheaval. I was terrified; I went to dark places. I’m a single woman entirely dependent on my own income. Yes, I had some savings, but how long could that last? Would I wind up homeless? What would happen to my cats?

With the benefit of the crisis finally coming to an end, it’s easy to see that I was never truly in danger. Not because of all of my hibernating, obsessing over “what ifs” and scouring the web for suitable jobs, but because I have a safety net comprised of the most amazing friends a person could ever have. From the simple act of paying for dinner to one hero actually covering my rent, my friends rallied.

I’m humbled. These friends stepped up and helped when I was too defeated to even ask. They rescued me.

If you think about it, Kitten Rescue does exactly this every single day for the most vulnerable cats and kittens in Los Angeles. Every day, we swoop in to rescue these little souls who cannot help themselves. From simply providing food and shelter, to life-saving medical procedures, we’re there for them. It was Kitten Rescue who saved Waverly’s life and provided her the wonderful future she has.

My plea for your help is late, but no less urgent. I’m asking you to help me do for the kittens of Kitten Rescue what my friends did for me.
