A lot of you know I'm the ride director for Tour de Fuzz...but you probably don't know that I started this ride.  It was almost by accident, and here's why.

Going on 20-years now, I'm the old guy on the local chaplaincy board. It was 10 years ago that despite all the good we were doing in the community for both law enforcement and people in their darkest hours, we found ourselves going broke! Out of exasperation at one board meeting, I mumbled quietly and almost to myself, "...maybe we should do a bike ride". The other board members pounced.

Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I rallied my cop-cycling buddies and in five short weeks, somehow we put on TdF#1. Sure, we only had 168 riders, but that little event earned our chaplaincy more money than we'd ever made before.

Now we're a perennial sell-out and the #1 Police and Supporting Public ride in the nation.  Every year, police officers and law enforcement supporting cyclists from around the nation schedule their vacations around the second Saturday of September.

Me? Every year le Tour de Fuzz is 36-hour-day for me, so I've never gotten to ride it. But this year, I've hatched a plan. I've noticed that from about 8:30 to 10:30 AM, most of the riders are out on the course and there's a short lull. It's right then that I'm going to mount my trusty Cervelo RS and ride like the wind. I'll only have time to do the spectacularly beautiful 50K, but if I crush it, I can get back before anyone misses me. Even with the rolling hills, my goal is 21 MPH average for all 35 miles!

I've done plenty of century rides, but this year will be my first Tour de Fuzz and I'm excited. Crowd-funding works because a lot of people give a little. So please support me and my epic dash of a ride. I'll be grateful, and you'll be helping real people when they need it most.
