Who was Kittie Knox?
Born in 1874 in Cambridge, Kittie Knox was an incredible trailblazer in many ways. A Black woman in a time when women were expected to conform to rigid social norms, she defied all conventions.
She insisted on riding bikes, which was considered inappropriate for a woman of her race and social standing. She rode bikes marketed to men in trousers of her own design. She fought for Black riders' acceptance into local bicycle leagues.
Knox was a pioneer for justice, and her story is an inspiration to all who dare to dream.
This Tour de Streets we again will ride in her honor to keep her memory alive.
