There are over 210,500 people living with dementia in NC, and these numbers are expected to increase. Caregivers for individuals with dementia are a rapidly growing sector of our population. In NC, an estimated 381,000 dementia caregivers are providing 739 million hours of unpaid care each year. Dementia Alliance of North Carolina focuses their efforts locally and offer assistance to those who are living with or caring for individuals throughout all stages and types of dementia. Over the past year alone, they have served over 14,000 people living with dementia through their education, navigation and support programs. If you know me, you know how this hits home, as BOTH my grandmothers had dementia. I am also a nurse practitioner at a neurology practice where we diagnose and treat for dementia. I have seen the impact of what support can do for a dementia journey. That is why I am fundraising at this year's Walk to Defeat Dementia!
