I’ve decided to run the TC-10mile as part of Team Superstars to raise money for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders program. Why? Well… Children's has been a part of my life for 28 years- when back in 1988 tvs were scarce and rented and carted around to rooms (because there was only one per floor), when Thank God For Kids was only a small group of hopeful patient families and doctors looking to raise a few thousand dollars (becoming a $1M+ event 25 years later), and when private rooms were unheard of. Today Children’s has become the seventh-largest freestanding children’s healthcare organization in the U.S. providing care through more than: 14,000 inpatient visits, 96,000 emergency room visits, 265,000 primary and 90,000 specialty care visits every year. In addition, Children’s is regularly ranked as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. I have been fortunate enough to wear many hats at Children’s- my first and most important hat is being a grateful patient. The impact Children’s has had on my life and family is too large to begin to describe and I am forever grateful to Children’s, including Dr. Heisel, Dr. Bostrom, Dr. Singher, Dr. Cich, Dr. Rich, nurse Sarah, and the many many other care team providers that were part of my patient journey. Although I was two when this all happened- is it weird that I still can remember during one of my many tests a staff member who had a cookie monster puppet act out a funny scene- to this day, I'm pretty sure it was Dr. Bostrom :). Can I also mention that we brought our two beautiful girls into this world at the Mother Baby Center? The care my two girls and I received there is also indescribable. The second hat I have been fortunate enough to wear for the last 8 years has been an employee- working in the foundation to help raise money for the most amazing people on earth! This last hat I sure am proud to wear is a donor hat- giving back to the place that means so much to me and my family! I’m so happy to be part of TEAM SUPERSTARS! Woop! #letsdothis
