Around this time last year My Fiancé and I learned that our baby girl that we were eagerly waiting to arrive had a complex anatomy to say the least... It wasn't until she made her arrival on July 22nd that we realized just how complicated everything was. Khaleesi Wren was born without a spleen, her Esophagus not fully formed together and her heart was on the Right side of her chest instead of the left. At two days old, Leesi, she had to have surgery on her esophagus so she could breathe and eat properly. Khaleesi Wren spent a month in the CICU. The doctors found 3 holes that they ended up needing to patch surgically at 3 months old around Halloween time. Our girl didn't miss out on the fun though! We dressed her up as a Beautiful Monarch Butterfly using supplies from her hospital room! Khaleesi ended up needing another heart surgery at 8 months old in April of 2026. Life has been a roller coaster of emotions this past year but I wouldn't change it for the world! We love our crazy little ball of energy, She's such a ray of sunshine in every single room she enters. She has truly made us stronger and closer as a family and I can't imagine life without her in it.
This year, I'm walking with extra purpose as The Children's Heart Foundation celebrates 30 incredible years of funding research that saves lives and changes futures. My commitment to making a difference has led me to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk, an event that carries immense significance for me—especially knowing that for three decades, CHF has been the leading force behind the treatments and surgical advances that help children with congenital heart defects thrive.
The Children's Heart Foundation's crucial mission—advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research that improves survival rates, reduces complications, and helps Heart Warriors celebrate more birthdays than ever before.
