My nephew was born with a heart defect that required surgery when he was only 7 days old. As a family, having to watch such a tiny baby go through something so serious was incredibly scary and emotional. At only 7 days old, he was already facing something no parent or family ever expects their child to go through.

Thankfully, he was able to receive the medical care and surgery he needed, and that surgery saved his life. Today, we are incredibly grateful for the doctors, nurses, specialists, research, and medical advancements that made it possible for him to receive that treatment when he needed it most.

Experiencing this within my own family has made congenital heart defects much more personal to me. Before my nephew was born, I don’t think I fully understood how many babies are born with heart defects or how much research and medical care can impact their future.

That’s why I’m participating in the Congenital Heart Walk and raising money for The Children’s Heart Foundation. I want to help support research that can lead to better treatments and give more children the same opportunity my nephew had to receive the care they need and grow up surrounded by the people who love them.

I’m walking for my nephew, for our family, and for every little heart warrior whose story is still being written.
